A compilation of common questions and answers
Do you travel for shoots? Is there an additional charge?
I get this question a lot since I've moved to Colombia and the answer is yes, I do travel for shoots and whether it costs extra depends on the location. Due to the fact that a majority of what I book is in Chicagoland area, I have chosen not to charge clients for this. However, I am more than happy and willing to travel to any other location, too, whether it's for a wedding, another event, or another type of shoot that I offer. I simply ask that clients cover the travel expenses and then I will take care of the rest!
How do I book a shoot with you if you live in Colombia and I'm not sure when you will be in Chicago next?
To book a shoot with me and/or see what my available dates are, send me an email at email@example.com, go to my facebook page to check recent posts, or go here. I come back to Chicago pretty frequently so there's always a chance to book something with me!
Can you save a date for me?
Unfortunately, I am not able to do that unless I receive the required, non-refundable 50% deposit, which leads to the next question.
Do you charge a deposit?
Yes, I charge a 50% non-refundable deposit upfront in order to confirm a session and save a date/time. Part of the reason why is due to the fact that I have to travel by plane, but one of the other reasons being that sometimes life happens and cancellations come up. Since this is what I do for a living, I have to treat it as such, but it also benefits the client by ensuring that their session won't go to someone else since I work on a first come/first serve basis.
Can you give me the RAW images from our shoot?
Absolutely not. This is something that I, as well as many other photographers, feel very strongly about. I assume that by hiring me to be your photographer, it's because you appreciate my photography style, and when you ask for the RAW images it comes off like you are not trusting me to do my job well and to do what you have paid me to do. In other words, perhaps another photographer with a different style might better suit you. It's akin to going to a bakery and commissioning them to make you a beautiful cake, only for you to then ask them to provide you with all of the ingredients to bake said cake so that you can go home and do it yourself.
When can I see my photos?
Typical turn around time for weddings is 6 weeks after the wedding date, with an additional 3 weeks (sometimes less) after the gallery goes live for the album(s)/prints to be delivered. These additional 3 weeks allows the clients to pick and choose which are their favorite photos from the event that they would like to see in their album.
Turn around time for other types of shoots is 4 weeks from the date of the event/session.
Where can I see my photos?
Once the photos are ready and uploaded, you will receive a link to a secure online proof gallery where you can view, download, and order prints to the e-mail you have provided me.
Are my photos going to be watermarked?
For web use, yes. At the time of delivery of images, clients will receive both web quality images for use on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media, as well as high resolution images for making prints and other services previously discussed with me.
Do you offer videography services?
Not at this time, however if you are interested in being part of my team as a videographer, send me an email with some samples of your work at firstname.lastname@example.org
What do I wear for my family/engagement/portrait session?
I LOVE prints but they can often appear a little too noisy in photos. For multiple person shoots, matching is not required, but it is best to choose complementary colors in outfit choices. Stick to more simple patterns, if any.
Do you have recommendations for locations?
Yup! I know several gorgeous locations throughout the Chicagoland area that we can do a session at if you don't have anywhere special in mind.
Ahh, I'm so awkward in photos/I'm so nervous. Can you help me?
Of course! Believe it or not, I feel the exact same way when I am in front of a camera. It's not easy, especially when we're often pressured into thinking we have to look or be a certain way all the time. However, as your photographer, it is my job to do my best to put you at ease and help you relax, but it is a partnership. We work together to create the images we can both walk away happy with. The best sessions I've had have been the ones where my clients were able to let go of any judgements of themselves and I promise you it's worth it and it shows. It sometimes helps to view Pinterest beforehand just to get an idea of how you want to appear in photos and maybe come across some that you can see yourself in.
I have a Pinterest board of poses that I really want. Can I show them to you?
I would be more than happy to view your Pinterest board and see what you have in mind, but I would like to ask that clients keep it to under 10 poses as I imagine that one of the reasons you have come to me to be your photographer is because you appreciate that I don't do too many super hardcore posed photos and you like the more natural, candid look. I would love to work on getting some of the poses you absolutely want, but I also want to create something really special and unique with you. That being said, I do usually recommend that clients put together a Pinterest board, especially for weddings, so that I can get a feel for what you're looking for/want to focus on, but not necessarily to copy.
Do you do headshots?
I have in the past, but unless you are hiring me to do atypical headshots/can be absolutely sure we have an understanding of the type of images you will receive, I will likely not accept the commission. Why? Because, personally, I find headshots to be boring.
Do you offer packages?
Yup! Starter packages can be seen here. If you're interested in a more advanced package, or simply better curated for what you're looking for, I would be more than happy to chat. Send over an e-mail at email@example.com to discuss packages or go here.
Even though you live in Colombia, can I still contact you by phone call or text message?
Definitely. I still have a U.S. number and I am on T-mobile's International Plan which allows people in the States to call me/text me as if my phone were on U.S. soil.
Are you looking to add more photographers to your team?
It's always helpful to have a list of people to refer to when hired for big events like weddings, if you would like to be added to this list of contacts and believe your style would be complimentary to mine, send over an e-mail with some examples of your work and website/social media (if applicable) to firstname.lastname@example.org
